Chapter 2
______________________________________________________________________________

"Come on Sage, Heero! You both need baths! You too Trowa, for a gladiator you sure do stink." Looking up from where he was staring at his newfound interest, the little blonde Quatre, Trowa glared at them then resumed his previous actions. Duo rolled his eyes as he turned to the other two.

"Come on you two, off to the bath with you." Sage turned his head away.

"I shall not bathe in the site of any other!" Sage exclaimed, wrapping his arms around his chest. His clothes were no longer shredded, and instead he wore a baggy sweater with the comical word "Milk ball" across it, and a pair of baggy, stripped, drawstring pants.

"Duo, before Sage can bathe, I have to help him first. He’s got ticks, ad fleas, and all sorts of weird bugs on him." Duo winced. He hated ticks.

"Wait, we need to give him a flea bath then you can pry the ticks out of him." Rowen nodded.

"Come on Sage, strip down." Sage shook his head rapidly, wrapping his arms around him trying to cover himself more.

"Come on." Rowen took Sage’s hand as he dragged him over to the bathroom, shutting the double doors behind them.

"Sage, I have to get you a flea bath." Rowen stated calmly, as Sage shook his head.

"I do not wish for you to see me..." He murmured, as he hung his head, strands of dirty brown hair falling in his face. Rowen sighed, reaching up and brushing the locks out of the boy’s eyes.

"I have to look. I’m sorry, but you need the bath or you’re going to be itchy for the rest of your life, and do you really want that to happen?" Rowen glanced over the boy, trying to figure out his age, as he waited for a reply. Finally, Sage nodded, as Rowen walked over to the large tub and began filling it with warm water. Grabbing the flea bath they used for their tiger, whom Duo had found as a kitten on the streets, he poured it into the water. Turning, he realized that Sage was still fully clothed.

"You know, you can’t bathe in your clothes." Sage nodded.

"Turn around and shut your eyes." Nodding, Rowen did as he was told, listening carefully to the discarding of clothes and the penetration of the water.

"You can look now." Sage stated softly as Rowen opened his eyes and turned to the boy, who was in the tub, his knees pulled to his chest. Rowen sighed, as he grabbed the shampoo, dunking Sage’s hair in the water, he then lathered up the boy’s hair, gently massaging the scalp. Sage leaned back into the therapeutic touch, his arms falling to his side. Rowen smiled as he finished.

"Come on Sage, lean back." Nodding, the boy leaned back, dipping his hair in the water. Carefully he cleaned off the boy’s hair, as he gasped in shock. Instead of the horribly dirty brown, the boy’s hair was actually the purest gold. Rowen had never seen a more beautiful hair color.

"Your hair is gorgeous!" Rowen exclaimed as Sage blushed.

"Thank you. No one has ever said something that is so kind to my heart before." Rowen smiled as he gathered up Sage’s hair to wash it once more. Finally, after that was finished, Rowen turned to the blonde.

"You need to clean yourself up with soap." Sage gave him an odd look.

"Soap?" Rowen nodded.

"You rub your hands over it, and it gets on your hands. And then you rub your hands on the rest of your body, and rinse it off. It’ll make you all clean!" Sage nodded as Rowen turned away.

"Now, you clean yourself up while I got get a towel." Sage nodded as he grabbed the bar of soap. Rowen smiled as he walked over to the large closet, reaching in and grabbing the biggest towel he could find and proceeded back to the bath, where he came to another shock. The blonde had the most beautiful face he’d ever seen. Obviously the conditions he had been living in had not marred his face, as he looked at Rowen with big purple eyes. With lightening movement, he recovered himself with his knees, his face bright red. Rowen laughed as he opened up the large towel.

"Come on Sage, get out." Sage hung his head as he waited for Rowen to look away. Finally, the boy did, as stepped back into the towel, letting Rowen wrap it around him.

"Come on, let’s get you back to my room and dressed." Sage nodded as Rowen let go of him and the towel, and then headed down the hallway towards Rowen’s room.

"Crap! He’s blonde!" Duo asked, who just happened to be in the hallway with Heero as well.

"Yeah, it’s pretty isn’t it?" Duo nodded.

"And his hair’s longer then mine! Unfair!" Duo stated as Heero laughed softly. Sage smiled at Heero. Being the two neglected ones in their own times, they had befriended each other the moment they had met.

"You all flea free kid?" Duo asked as Sage nodded. Rowen smiled.

"I found many shocks while he was bathing." Duo grinned. Rowen had a crush, Rowen had a crush!

"Well, I’m taking Sage back to my room, checking for ticks, then getting him dressed and sending him to sleep. He looks like he was never allowed to catch a break in England." Sage nodded.

"You have know idea of how truthful that is." He muttered, as Rowen gave him a questioning look. Sage turned away, shivering slightly.

"You must be cold. Come on, off to the room with you." Rowen stated as Sage nodded. Taking Sage’s shoulder, Rowen led him off to his room.

"Sage, you need to take off the towel." Sage hung his head.

"Tis that what you truly wish to see?" Sage asked as Rowen nodded.

"It’s the only way to get all the ticks off of you." Sage nodded helplessly, as he sat on the bed. Rowen sat down and scooted behind him, waiting for him to remove the towel. Slowly Sage pulled off the cloth as Rowen gasped. Sage was incredibly malnourished. Sage hung his head in shame, as he shifted into a more comfortable position, presenting his rear end a little more then he should have. Rowen gulped. He was not going to jump the boy; he was not going to jump Sage.

"I suppose giving me a place to live is enough payment..." Sage muttered, closing his eyes. Rowen gave him a weird look.

"Pay?" Rowen asked as Sage blushed.

"Well, of course sir. I mean, for what you were going to do to me..." Rowen looked on in confusion.

"What do you mean, "What you were going to do to me"?" Sage blushed.

"You mean... you were not going to.... Um..." Rowen’s face still held a look of confusion. Sage sighed and turned, pressing his lips against Rowen’s. Rowen gasped in shock as he pulled away.

"Of course I wasn’t going to do... that! Why would you even think that?" Sage hung his head, letting it rest on Rowen’s chest.

"Well, everyone else does." He stated as Rowen gasped.

"What do you mean?"

"Tis what I mean." Sage whispered softly. Rowen sighed, holding Sage against him.

"Come on, I have to get the ticks off of you." Sage nodded as Rowen began searching his body.

~~**^^**~**^^**~~

"Would you like to have free love?" Cye asked Kento as the blue haired man gasped.

"What do you mean by that?" Cye shrugged.

"Free love. That’s exactly what I mean." Kento’s eyes bugged out.

"So you mean sex for free?" Kento asked as Cye gave him a confused look.

"I mean free love!" Cye exclaimed as Kento sighed.

"Ok, so you mean intercourse without paying?"

"What’s paying?" Cye asked as Kento sighed.

"Giving something in exchange for a service." Cye shook his head.

"Everyone shares. No one trades. And we all believe in free love!" Cye exclaimed as Kento grinned.

"Well, why don’t we go free love now."

"But first shouldn’t we ask the others if they want to join?" Kento gasped.

"You mean free love can be a group thing?" Cye laughed.

"They don’t call it free love for nothing." Kento nearly fainted.

"Well, I think it should be just you and me for now." Cye shrugged.

"If you say so." Kento grinned and grabbed Cye’s arm, as they ran off to another room. It was that moment that Sage and Rowen made their entrance. Quatre smiled brightly when he saw the boy.

"Sage, you look beautiful!!" Sage smiled faintly. His hair was now dry and combed, cascading loosely over his shoulders. His clothes were those of a normal boy his age, a pair of really lose jeans with a silver belt holding them up, and a long sleeved, emerald green turtle neck. Rowen grinned.

"See, he’s pretty, not a little cur!" Sage turned his head away.

"I was never a cur, I was a wh... do not mind me." Rowen looked on in concern yet said nothing.

"Well, how is everyone faring? I hope you’re handling the change of environment well enough..." The group nodded. Rowen noted in interest that everyone but Cye and Kento, whom he had heard speaking moments before, were present in the room. Ryo and Wufei sat uncomfortably on the couch, each standing rigid as if afraid to move. Quatre had taken residence on the floor, sitting casually on his mat, Trowa watching the blonde carefully in the armchair. Duo was sitting on another one of the couches, slowly inching closer to Heero, who nervously sat next to him. Sage slowly pulled out the wooden piano seat, not the most comfortable seat in the world, and sat on it, his head hung, blonde locks falling in his eyes. Rowen smiled at the blonde earning himself a grin from Duo.

"Hey, Ro, after we put everyone else to sleep, can I talk to ya?" Rowen nodded softly as Duo grinned.

"Well, I think that I speak not only of myself, but everyone when I say that I am starving! So, who says we order out? I mean, Chinese sounds good." Rowen sighed.

"Duo, none of the people here have had that kind of food before. They’re stomachs couldn’t handle it. Remember what happened to the Japanese when we introduced to the Western foods so many years ago?" Duo nodded.

"Guess you’re right. Well, what does everyone eat?"

"Potatoes..." Heero muttered as Duo tried not to laugh.

"Mashed corn." Trowa stated. Being a prisoner had not left much food for him to live off of.

"Well, let me think. I ate fish, and grains, and bread! And..."

"Ok Quatre, that’s enough food listings. Ok, what else did everyone eat?" Rowen turned to Sage who shrugged.

"I did not fill myself with anything... Though I did get a sip of whiskey from time to time, but that is not food, correct?" Rowen nodded.

"Yeah, it’s a drink." He stated as Sage nodded, silencing once again.

"I ate lots of corn..." Wufei stated from his seat with Ryo, as Ryo grinned.

"Well, the upper class people ate a lot, but I usually had bread, and soft wine and such." He stated as Duo nodded.

"Well, corn and bread. What a meal..." He muttered as Rowen laughed.

"Well, I didn’t mean that they couldn’t eat any of our food Duo, I just meant don’t shove it down Heero’s throat like I figured you would." Duo grinned in embarrassment.

"Yeah, I probably would have knowing me." Sage nodded.

"And remember Duo, I do know you." Duo laughed and nodded.

"Like your own very hot and attractive brother!" Rowen snickered.

"Attractive?"

"Hey!" Duo exclaimed as Rowen laughed.

"Well, Duo, get the phone book. I think we have a lot of food to order!" Duo nodded in agreement as he ran into the kitchen, returning moments later with the book. Rowen nodded in thanks as he began to read through it and order random things from different restaurants.

"Hey, Ro, when you’re done, call Mia and Sally over for dinner as well." Rowen smiled.

"Wow! A good idea from you Duo! I’m amazed." Duo grinned happily as Rowen quickly made the call to the women and told them to bring their medical equipment, not saying specifically what for.

"Hey, Ro, why didn’t you tell them about our boys?" Duo asked as Rowen sighed.

"Who knows who’s tapping into our phone conversation. And the last thing we want the press to know is that we have a bunch of people from all times of the past in our house. And what about the government? Any of these people would pay big bucks or go to any extent to have these guys!" Duo nodded.

"Make’s sense." Duo stated as Rowen nodded.

"Now we wait for the food." Rowen stated as the others nodded, each sitting around the room. Rowen pulled a bunch of pillows out of the closet and put them on the floor, then pulled out a blanket and wrapped it around his shoulders. Looking up at Sage, he sighed.

"Sage, come sit on the pillows with me. It’s a lot more comfortable then that hard wood seat." Sage shook his head slightly, a blush creeping across his face. Rowen laughed.

"Come on, there’s room for another under this blanket as well." Rowen stated with the smile as Sage hung his head. He wanted to, gods he wanted to. He was cold, and Rowen was so kind, and his heart told him to go on, but his body protested. He had once trusted his uncle, and look where that had left him. Rowen slowly picked up a pillow and the blanket, and then walked over to the blonde. He set the pillow down on the wooden seat, and then sat down himself, wrapping the blanket around Sage as well. The blonde’s face flushed even more, as he turned his head away.

"Sage, I’m not going to hurt you." He stated as Duo smiled. Rowen was smitten! He was a smitten kitten! Slowly, Sage moved closer to the boy, who grinned brightly.

"See? I don’t bite! Told ya!" Sage nodded, a small smile gracing his lips as he leaned his head on Rowen’s shoulder. Rowen simply smiled. It was then that the door rang as Rowen sighed in annoyance.

"Don’t worry Ro, I’ll get it. You seem to have your hands full." Duo exclaimed as he bounced over to the door and yanked it open, to see two young women, hand in hand, in the doorway.

"Hey girls!" He exclaimed as Sally smiled.

"So, why were we directed to bring our medical kit if you’re perfectly fine?" She asked as Duo laughed.

"We have some friends for you to meet." He stated as the women looked at each other in confusion and shrugged, following their bouncy host into the living room. And came to there biggest shock ever.

"Who are all these people?" Sally asked as Mia gasped in awe.

"Look at their clothes! An authentic Egyptian necklace!" She exclaimed as she let go Sally’s hand and ran over to Ryo to finger the necklace around his neck. Gasping in shock, he pulled away.

"And is that an Indian spear?" She asked as she glanced at Wufei, who pulled his weapon to his chest.

"And an authentic gladiator outfit?" she looked in shock between them all.

"Is this a joke?" she asked as Rowen shook his head, Sage’s head still on his shoulder.

"They’re all authentic. I was goofing around with my computer..."

"Uh oh, no good can come of that." Sally muttered as Mia nodded in agreement. Rowen rolled his eyes.

"Well, anyways, I was playing with time, you know, like I always do? Well, I didn’t mean to, but I used a program or something and I brought them all here from other times."

"Well, then where’s everyone from?" Mia asked, her eyes resting on the blonde lying on Rowen’s shoulder. She smiled. The boy was very pretty, she had to admit that Rowen had good taste.

"Well, Heero is from Dublin during the potato famine, and he’s the one on the couch with Duo. Well, the one on the carpet is Quatre, and he’s from Mecca a long time ago. He’s a priest... I can’t remember exactly what it is he’s called. And the one staring at his... err... watching him is Trowa, a gladiator who was captured and forced to be a gladiator. He’s Greek, but he’s spent a good amount of his life in Italy." Mia nodded, smiling at the three that had just been introduced. Sally, on the other hand, was looking Sage over, who was clinging to Rowen and trying to get away from her. Rowen turned to the pair.

"Sage, she won’t hurt you. She’s just checking to make sure you aren’t sick or anything." Sage said nothing as his grip tightened on Rowen. Rowen shrugged.

"Sorry Sally. I tried."

"Why’s he so skittish?" she asked as Rowen sighed.

"Well, he’s from England during the time of the Black Plague. Both his parents were killed from it and he was left to live with his uncle. Apparently his uncle wasn’t exactly that nice, and spent all their money on alcohol. Money that Sage earned by... err..." Rowen opted not to tell exactly what, and instead left it up for the others to figure it out for themselves. Duo winced.

"Damn. Poor thing." He stated as Rowen nodded. Sage removed his head from Rowen’s shoulder.

"I shall... be going to our room now." He stated as he rose and quickly exited the room. Rowen sighed.

"He really doesn’t like to talk about it." Rowen murmured as the doorbell rang. He sighed as he left to answer it.

"Ok, is it just me, or does that boy have the coolest voice ever? I mean, polite old English, and the coolest accent the world has ever known." Mia stated as Sally laughed.

"Food’s here!" Rowe stated as he came into the room, balancing a ton of food and plates in his arms. A cheer emitted from the group as Sally smiled.

"Ok, I have to check up on all you boys, Ok? I’m not going to do anything that makes you uncomfortable, and if I do, then tell me and I’ll stop immediately. I don’t need a repeat of Sage." The boys nodded.

"But first we eat!" she exclaimed as they all nodded.

"Ok, do I smell food?" Everyone looked up to see Kento enter the room, Cye in tow.

"Woah! That is a lot of food!" Kento cried out as he glanced around.

"Ok, two questions. Who are the chicks, and where is Sage?"

"Well, these are our friends Sally and Mia, one’s a doctor and one is a historical major."

"And Sage?" Rowen sighed.

"We got talking about his past and he took his leave." Kento looked on in confusion.

"What was wrong with that?" Rowen sighed.

"He’s a whore, OK? He really doesn’t like talking about it, alright?"

"What’s a whore?" Quatre asked as Rowen sighed.

"A harlot." Rowen stated as Quatre gasped.

"That’s not a good thing!"

"I know. Well, come on everyone, eat up." Rowen stated as he grabbed two plates and piled food on each. Afraid to see the eating habits of everyone, he turned to the group.

"I’m going to go give Sage some food. See ya later." He stated as he walked out of the room and into the hallway. Carefully he kicked open the slightly ajar door to his room as he walked in.

"Sage?" He asked as he looked at the body with its head buried in his pillow. Finally, the blonde sat up and looked at Rowen. He hadn’t been crying, and Rowen would bet everything that Sage was one that rarely resorted to emotions unless he was truly frightened beyond comprehension.

"I brought you some food." Rowen stated as Sage smiled faintly.

"Thank you. You are far good to someone of my lowly status." He stated as Rowen laughed.

"Don’t worry about it! I’m here for you. So, why don’t you eat?" Sage nodded, as he took the plate from Rowen and began to slowly nibble on the noodles. Rowen sighed in happiness. Sage wasn’t fearful of having his food taken anymore it seemed. For some reason that made him feel better. Finally, the silence was halted, as Sage spoke.

"Please believe me. I did not wish to do it... he made me. I would have rather died of lack of food, yet he wouldn’t let me. He... offered me to pleasure his friends without my consent. That way he’d be assured payment, since he was a comrade with the monstrous people!" Sage bit his lip to keep from crying. Rowen looked on in sympathy and what he could only describe as love. Setting down his food and taking Sage’s and doing the same, he reached over and pulled the Englishman into his arms.

"Don’t worry Sage. I don’t blame you for anything that has happened to you. It’s not your fault. And don’t ever think it is." Sage nodded as he held tightly onto Rowen.

~~**^^**~**^^**~~

"Trowa, please! I know you’re watching me, can’t you at least tell me what it is about me that you find so entertaining?" Quatre asked as Trowa blushed.

"Well..." He murmured as Quatre sighed.

"Please just tell me!" the blonde asked as Trowa sighed, then reached over and brought his lips to the blondes. He had been raised where you never knew if you were going to live or die. He had based his life on the phrase "Carpe Deum." And now was no exception.

Quatre simply gasped in shock.
