Chains of The Past

Chapter 1

______________________________________________________________________________

500 years later....

Slowly, Touma Hashiba trudged through the hot, rather barren land. The sweltering heat was almost too much, but he was going to find this old town if it was the last thing he did. Ever since he was a child, he had longed to go back in time. He’d always wished that he could have been born hundreds of years ago, with things like magic, and dragons, and mythical beings. That had been his unlivable dream. Until he had found out about a town. It was legendary, a town that was granted immortality with the sacrifice of one of the children of the town. Not that Touma found it right for them to do such a horrid thing, but if the town truly existed, in the light of the old age, he would be there.

"Touma, don’t get your hopes up mate. You know the odds of us finding this place are slim to none." Shin stated as Touma sighed. The auburn haired boy was right, the odds of them finding this old race were not good. Both were first year students at a University, both majoring in the area of mythology, and minoring in archeology. They had befriended each other at the beginning of the year, and now that summer had come, they were to be roommates the upcoming year, and were inseparable.

"Don’t be such a pessimist Shin." Touma stated with a smiled, as his companion shrugged.

"There’s nothing wrong with being realistic!" Touma laughed.

"Guess you’re right. Now, it was supposed to be around here, right?" Shin nodded softly. Touma was the one with the map, not him.

"Ok, well, this place is so barren, I don’t think anyone could survive here." Shin nodded in agreement, as he glanced around.

"Ummm.... Touma..." the azure-haired boy ignored his friend.

"Touma...." Again the boy ignored his friend, when finally the British boy had had enough.

"Touma! Look over there you twit!" Touma jerked his head around at the Brit’s high-pitched yell, and noticed what the boy was talking about.

"Holy Shit!"

Seiji! Come over here, now!" The blonde cowered. What had he done now? Had he even done anything to upset his master? Quickly he sat up in the desk, sliding to his feet and trying to get to his Master as fast as he could, in case he was angry. He ran into his Master’s bedroom, his head hung in a mimic of the old custom of bowing.

"I’m bored. Entertain me." Sage flushed. It never ceased to amuse Ryo how easily the blonde got embarrassed.

"Come here." Ryo stated as the blonde moved closer to his Master.

"You’re 515 and you’re still scared of me. You’re so young." Ryo stated as he pulled the blonde onto his lap. Seiji said nothing as Ryo brought his lips to the smaller boy. Seiji leaned into the kiss, the least he could do for his Master. And he did anything to please his Master. Even things that he really hated doing. Such as this. It amused him that out of all of his Master’s playthings, Ryo always seemed to want him. Carefully, never breaking the kiss, Ryo lifted Seiji’s body into his arms, and carried him over to the bed, straddling the boy’s slim waist, and still, never losing the kiss. Slowly he unbuttoned the tunic on the boy below him, tossing it off the bad as it fell limply to the floor.

"Master!" Both Seiji and Ryo turned to the new entrant into the room. Seiji blushed fiercely, as he tried to hide himself underneath Ryo. The demon that had entered averted his eyes from the pair to the best of his ability.

"Ummm, sir, new people have come to the land. You told us that if anything happens, to tell you. Well, there are two males. They don’t wear the normal style of clothing, and no one had ever seen them before." Seiji’s head perked up in interest. Maybe these people were human. He hadn’t seen a human since he was mortal.

"What race are they?" The demon turned to Seiji.

"Human, Master." Seiji’s eyes lit up. Humans! He scarcely remembered what they looked like! Except himself, but he was beginning to doubt if he was human or not. Ryo sighed as he sat up, exposing Seiji to the other creature, who casually licked his lips, eying the flesh of the blonde. Seiji cringed. The demon ate human flesh, and really had a thing for Seiji. Seiji didn’t want to know what is wanted to do. He shuddered at the thought.

"Take me to them, I think I shall greet them. Welcome them to this land." Seiji watched as Ryo licked his lips. If Ryo liked these people, and took them, then maybe he’d want them more then Seiji. The idea was relieving. Less exertion. Ryo turned to the blonde who looked intently at him.

"Seiji, you’re coming with me, got it?" The blonde nodded. He said nothing as he rose to his feet, grabbing the tunic from its place on the floor, and pulling it on. He felt his Master’s fingers wrap around his wrist, and willingly followed the boys lead.

"Dek’aha, take us to them." The other demon nodded, leading his Master and the overly loved human, for whom he spited, to the new entrants to the town. He himself hated the blonde. The Master had two forms, one of which they hadn’t seen in over 200 years. Master always stayed in his human form, because of Seiji of course. His other form was the more demon form, the one with the leathery wings, dark black flesh covered in soft, velvety fur, and the long, curved horns on his head. Dek’aha had found him much more attractive as a demon then a human. But he didn’t want to scare the boy, so he stayed in his human form, always. Though he hated the human, he had to admit that the boy was overly attractive. And he looked so... edible. His pale flesh would make such a fine meal.

"What do these humans look like?" Ryo asked as Dek’aha shrugged.

"One has hair the color of the midnight sky." Seiji listened quietly. Blue hair? Not even in his town, where he was the only blonde, had there been anyone with blue hair.

"And the other has fire hair sir, not as red as the flames, but a tinge of browning to it." Seiji was excited that Ryo was letting him come. Ryo normally left him alone in the room, the doors locked to prevent anyone from trying something on him, whatever that meant. But he actually got to come this time. The only thing that annoyed him was the chain around his neck, Should he anger Ryo, the chain would be pulled, and he would be chocked. That was bad enough, but he knew from experience that he’d pay that night as well. He shuddered. He did not want to upset Master like that. He didn’t think he could physically take the outcome.

"Seiji, they’re in your old town." Seiji’s eyes widened. They were in his town? He hadn’t been to his town in hundreds of years.

"Sir, maybe he shouldn’t come. Seeing his family may spark up some rebellion." Dek’aha stated as Ryo nodded in agreement. Seiji hung his head. Ryo watched him, and he could feel the eyes on him, but he ignored them. He was suddenly feeling very depressed.

"No Dek’aha. I’m taking him too." The demon’s eyes widened.

"Why?" The demon questioned in shock, as Ryo shrugged.

"Let him see his town. Let him see humans. He hasn’t in 500 years, and he won’t be sparked into rebellion. He is totally submissive and you know it." Seiji hung his head. Was he that bad? He guessed he was. As usual, he didn’t want to anger Master, so maybe he was excruciatingly obedient. But he couldn’t help it. He was 515 and raised to be that way.

"Now take us to the new arrivals." Dek’aha nodded as he led the others towards the town.

~~*~*~*~~

"What is this place?" Shin asked in awe, as he stared at the grand town. It was like stepping into the past, he mused, and technically he was.

"This must be the town! Shin, we found it!" To Shin’s surprise, Touma immediately pulled him into a hug.

"We did it! MY childhood dream! This is so amazing!"

"Hello?" Touma turned to Shin only to realize that it had not been the smaller boy speaking.

"Huh?" He turned to see a dark haired youth walking towards them.

"You must be the new people that have come to town. I’m Ryo Sanada, it’s a pleasure to meet you." Touma nodded slightly as he turned to Shin, who was staring with wide eyes next to Ryo.

"You’re a demon!" He exclaimed, pointing at Dek’aha in shock. The demon shrugged.

"And you’re a human!" The demon said in mockery, as Shin hung his head. Seiji watched from afar, well, as far as he could get with a chain around his neck. He stood behind a tree, waiting for permission to come closer. The humans were so odd looking, having not seen one in so long, and no choice for how he looked; it was amazing to see creatures like himself.

"If I may ask, what is it that brings you to our humble town?" Ryo asked as Touma grinned.

"Well, ever since I was a kid, I always wanted to go back and see dragons, and magic and all sorts of stuff like that. Well, then we heard about this legend of this boy that was given away to a demon..." Touma glanced over at Dek’aha, who simply smiled in return. "And in return his entire town was granted immortality. Well, since that was so long ago we thought that maybe, if it was true that is, that the town would still be going, and still use magic and such! And we were right!" Shin grinned and nodded in agreement.

"Would you like to see some magic?" Ryo asked as Touma nodded.

"Real magic does exist?" Ryo nodded solemnly.

"Seiji!" Ryo tugged on the chain that was in his hand, as the boy stumbled out from behind the tree.

"Show these boys your magic." Touma stared in shock. And at first he had thought this man was nice, but here he was with a young boy, and the boy was chained, being told exactly what to do. The small blonde boy closed his eyes, murmuring a few intangible words as an orb of light grew from between his palms. Finally, after it stabilized, he took it into his hand and threw it at a nearby tree. Touma and Shin watched in amazement as the tree turned into dust, annihilation inevitable.

"The tree didn’t deserve that." Ryo stated blandly, as Seiji hung his head.

"You shouldn’t kill things for amusement, boy." Seiji nodded, trying to hide his face from his Master.

"Ummm, excuse me, will you pardon us?" Ryo asked as the two boys nodded. He gestured for Dek’aha to watch the two boys as he took Sage and led the boy off to behind a small shack.

"Never do that again." Ryo warned, pulling the chain tighter around Seiji’s neck. The boy nodded softly, holding back tears.

"What do you think it looks like when a human can out-do me, or any of my demons in magic?" Seiji said nothing again, as Ryo struck him across the face. He raised his hand to his face, and delicately ran his fingers over his new wound.

"Now come on, we’ll talk about this later. Tonight." Seiji nearly whimpered. He was in trouble now. Punishment would be tonight. He felt the tug on his neck as he ran to catch up with Ryo.

"We’re back." Ryo stated after clearing his throat. The two boys acknowledged his presence. Time to work the missing key.

"As new arrivals to this town, it is my duty, as their leader, to grant you the gift of one wish. Whatever you want shall be granted. Money? Riches? Lovers?" He stated with a grin as he pulled Seiji to him.

"Is this true?" The demon nodded at Touma.

"Of course! Would I lie?" Touma shrugged. He didn’t know. Seiji shook his head rapidly.

"No! Don’t do it!" Everyone turned to the normally silent boy.

"He’s trying to trick you! That’s how he got me! I’m the one they sacrificed! I didn’t know at the time, but in exchange for the safety of the elder and immortality of the town I was raised in, I gave him my body and soul! Don’t be fooled like I once was! Please, I do not wish for my fate to befall on anyone else!" Seiji felt the chain dig into his flesh, yanking him to his knees and cutting off the blood flow to his head.

"Damn you boy! You ruined everything!" Seiji gasped for breath through the restraining hold."

"Run..." He gasped to Touma and Shin, as he struggled to keep consciousness.

"I should have listened to Dek’aha. He was right, this did spur rebellion within you." Ryo loosened the chain as Seiji gasped for sweet breaths of air. Ryo turned his attention to Touma and sighed.

"He wasn’t lying. That is what I do. But seeing as I can’t take anyone’s body and soul unless I grant a wish and it’s a trade, you might as well stay at my place. Come on Dek’aha. Boy." Seiji hung his head, rubbing his neck. They let Ryo lead them away from the town, Seiji’s head hung in fear, Touma’s trying desperately to look over his shoulder and see the town they were departing from.
